Sounds and dialogue (5/2/2014)

* First of all I decided to see if I could abridge the narrative which the team leader approved of, although he asked if the opening could be shorter as compared to the ending it was rather long.
You can see my results below...

Emergency Service Call (abridged):
Estimated time: Reduced from 1 minute 30 seconds to 50 seconds. Yet it still seems like a serious conversation whilst addressing all the points necessary.

Child has finished dialing the phone and is put through to emergency services.

Child: "Help! I really need the fire department!

Operator: "Ok, what number are you dialing from?"

Child: "My mobile number its 0759... err... 0993, 966!"

Operator: "Thank you, please stay on the line as we connect you to your nearest fire and rescue service".

Pause...

Fire Department: "Fire department here, where is the fire? And can you tell us what sort it is?"

Child: "Number 13 Pevel road, Lives-ville. My friend's mum was making chips for us and the chip pan just exploded!"

Fire Department:"That sounds like a chip pan fire! And since your on a main road we can deploy our men far more quickly. Make sure you all stay away from the fire, firefighters are on their way!

Child: "Ok! Please hurry!"

* Having spent a good 2 hours messing around with my voices, singing, acting through improvisation and reading stories of mine last night, I was able to make the following notes and possibilities for the group project today.

Looking over Bonnie's recent drawings I decided to give them possible voices that I felt best matched their appearance and mannerisms (a tactic used in animation and gaming). Making sure not to make them too long or loud so as to avoid too much noise.

Basic enemies:
  • Match Stick and Burning Paper: High pitch gibbering so as to make it clear they are simply goons.
  • Gas Canister: Hollow drumming due to the canister.
  • Frying Pan: Sizzling like bacon would.
  • Cooking Oil: The little pitter patter of glass feet due to the bottle, or slushing noises from its liquid contents.
  • Hair Dryer: Hair drying noises similar to an elephant's trumpet.
  • Unearthed Plug: Snake like hissing which would also go well with electricity.
As I am unable to come up with anything for the Wood Log or Ignited Lighter, I will come back to those another time.

Looking over the bosses next I felt the following voices best suited them.

Flame-bob Cooker:
  • Noticing that the cooker has a big mouth for the oven, I'd imagine this boss to have a deep imposing voice with possibly a blazing inferno sound effect in the back of its throat (similar to what a Diablo character may have). When the little fires pop out of it the cooker could make belching or throwing up sounds, thus maybe my fat disgusting man voice would be good as the oven is quite large as well.

Unwired Television:
  • Looking at this grey faced television I imagined him to either sound like Marvin from 'The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy' with his depressed voice (Vid 1), or Mr.Freeze from 'Batman the animated series' as his voice was both deep and had a very televised /static quality to it (Vid 2). Granted we could always combine the two e.g. a deep depressed voice with a televised /static quality to it, all the while electricity could be coursing through it.

Vid 2:

I also asked Jon if he could send in anymore examples and received two great audio clips that he worked on for two boss fires. Unfortunately I can not share these clips on Blogger, but none the less they sound great and showed me it could be done.

* With all the above in mind I then worked on a variety of phrases that the bosses could say, deciding to make a list as I felt I was limiting myself by trying to think of particular lines / puns for each individual one.

Therefore, the following lists dialogue that could be integrated / said by any of the bosses and composes of both serious and non serious sentences. In short, anything and everything...

Enter the scene:
  • "Can you feel the heat!?"
  • "I'm coming to get you!"
  • "The Human Torch has nothing on me!"
  • "Hide your furniture and hide your house for this fire is about to put you out!"
  • "Catching Fire? I love that movie!"
  • "I'm so hot steam thinks I'm cool!"
  • "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"
  • "Come on baby light my fire!"
  • "Like the legend of the Phoenix... WOAH!"
  • "You can't handle this new HOT sensation!"
  • "I think it's time we blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together... ok! 3, 2, 1 lets jam!"
  • "Ready men!? ("Yes sir!") FIRE!!!"

When Defeated:
  • "NO! This is impossible!"
  • "I'll be back!"
  • "No! I'm evaporating! Evaporating! What a world! What a world!"
  • "NO! I wasn't hot enough!"
  • "But I didn't start the fire! It's been always burning since the worlds been turning!"
  • "Woah! No need to give me the COLD shoulder!"
  • "Hey! No need to put me out so soon!"
  • "Now I know why they call you fire fighters!"
  • "Och! That hurt!"
  • "No fair! You cheated!"
  • "No! How could I lose to a kid? A kid!"
  • "Run away! Run away! Run away!"

When the boss beats the player:
  • "Wow! Much Fire, Such Heat"
  • "Burn baby burn! Disco Inferno!"
  • "Looks like I was too hot for you! HA HA!"
  • "Wow! That heat was intense!"
  • "Come back next time and give me a real challenge!"
  • "Woo! I'm on fire today!"
  • "Whoops! I did it again! HA HA HA!"
  • "That was boring! How about you try harder next time!?"
  • "Ohhhh... BURN!"
  • "Looks like you just got... burned! YEEEAAA!!!"
  • "Hmm... this place looks delicious! I can't wait to swallow it whole! MA HA HA HA HA!"
  • "All I need is some marshmallows and this victory will be complete!"
